Sex > Violence in Video Games
by Jamie on Apr.10, 2010, under Games, Sex

MSNBC put together a thorough and interesting article on sex in video games, talking about Mass Effect 2 & Dragon Age : Origins. It spoke about how the sex isn’t about two people coexisting and then knocking boots, but about how you build a genuine connection with another character through getting to know their life. It shows that you have the potential to find your mate through caring, not just coexisting. It may even be a lesson in social etiquette and understanding about how things are more likely to function in the real world…Despite the interplanetary game play dynamics.
Think about what happens in video games and what is socially acceptable (if you haven’t already a bajillion times). Why is it alright to murder people left right and centre, but the second you show some compassion or love, people want to outlaw it immediately. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH SEX. We need a more loving and caring society, not ones filled with kids who are entirely desensitized to murder! We need people to foster connections over hatred. Just love thy neighbour. LOVE THEM damn it!
And of course, the reddit commentary.
Nuit Blanche: Churches, Half-Life experiments & Balls of Light
by Jamie on Mar.02, 2010, under Life, Photography
…Continued from Day Blanche. Anton, Steffie and yours truly made it downtown, and started with the Belgo. There were a few mediocre exhibits, one which showcased mentally disabled people lying in seductive clothes nearly naked on their beds. The there of us found it to be incredibly disturbing and we did not like it. On a higher floor, learning about lithographs, we found some impressive art…and the long arduous creation process.
Afterwards, we made it to a church where I snapped these surrounding shots. Church de Gesu. There were a few art exhibits throughout, and then we went into the main area…Blown away. It looked and felt like we’d stepped into another dimension of consciousness. There was soothing DJ muzak, a purple smoke oozing through, religious paintings and sculptures throughout, a swinging chalice, a man speaking words and burning paper, and later, as we left, a performance dancer. Hands down, the most unique church experience of my life…And it was great.
Both Anton and me had wrote down some hopes/desires/what-have-you to be burned by the Priest/Father/Arsonist. It was a pretty calming feeling that came over both of us after it happened. I was glad to have participated.
A quick stop into Dagwoods and then on to meet a few other people up on St-Denis and Ontario. We passed this unique, desecrated blowup doll splayed drunkenly across an automobile.
Here are Spencer and Steffie being cute at Double Pizza. From there, Kasia also joined the ranks and we went to an architecture exhibit, and right in the same building, down some stairs and through some doorways, we discovered a Half-Life like performance art piece with a lot of workers, mostly in white jumpsuits.
From here, it was a splinter of our group, and we enjoyed an overwhelming artistic experience with Marcel Dzama at the museum of contemporary art. I have to say, too often, modern art offends me. This however, brought out great emotions and I enjoyed it all immensely.
Getting skunked by the Fantasia festival’s decision of showing their films in a smaller venue outside of the Wilfrid Pelletier, so we left after being sent away having gotten to the very front of the line. Onwards to explore the outdoors, snap a few more shots, and make our way home, hitting the local residence by a tepid 7am.
Get Terrorists Laid!
by Jamie on Mar.02, 2010, under Music, Sex
Read this article from Psychology Today or just understand its point; In cultures where men are shown love throughout formative years, there is a lesser likelihood of interpersonal violence.
“If young men are designed by evolution to be obsessed with sex, you’ve got to wonder what kinds of destructive energies are created and compounded by ideologies telling them these feelings are shameful.”
The points are solid and the research is founded. Sex is good and healthy, so please, go have some.
Here, you can this music playing in the background if you so wish.
